Collisions of Resonantly Coupled round Beams at the Cornell Electron-positron Storage Ring (cesr)

چکیده
As a first step toward testing the proposed “Möbius” scheme[1], we used existing CESR elements to collide round, rather than flat, beams. The tune shift parameter, , was inferred from the beam profiles and current, was compared to the tune shift of the coherent beam-beam mode, and was corroborated by luminosity measurement. Values of up to 0:09 were achieved without significant lifetime reduction.

Studies of the Beam-beam Interaction at Cesr
The Cornell Electron Storage ring facility CESR operates with 2 GeV multi-bunch electron and positron beams in a single beam-pipe. Electrostatic separators are used to separate the two counter-rotating beams at the parasitic crossings. When the beam energy was lowered from 5 GeV in 2003, the strength of the beam-beam interaction became a more important factor in beam-current limitations, result...
متن کاملSingle Bunch Longitudinal Measurements of the Cornell Electron- Positron Storage Ring with the Superconducting RF Cavities
As part of the Phase III luminosity upgrade, the Cornell Electron-Positron Storage Ring (CESR) RF system has been upgraded from normal conducting (NRF) to superconducting (SRF) cavaties. The new superconducting cavities change the overall impedance of CESR and thus change the longitudinal bunch distribution. Measurements of the single bunch longitudinal distribution have been made using a strea...
متن کامل1 . 1 Colliding Beams at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring CESR
The electron-positron collider CESR was constructed as an upgrade to the Cornell Electron Synchrotron in the late 1970’s, originally designed to operate at 16 GeV center of mass with a maximum luminosity of 1x10 cm-sec. [1] The parameter list specified a single 100 mA (1.5x10 e-) bunch in each beam and beam-beam parameters of 0.06 in each plane. The fortuitous discovery of the Upsilon family of...
متن کاملMeasurements of Bunch Motion Due to the Longitudinal Dipole-Coupled Bunch Instability at the Cornell Electron-Positron Storage
In the past a longitudinal dipole-coupled bunch instability had limited high current operation at CESR and resulted in a degradation of luminosity performance. A longitudinal feedback system successfully damps this instability and the exchange of superconducting rf cavities for normal conducting rf cavities in CESR has further reduced the instability's strength. A description of the longitudina...
متن کاملPerformance of the Cesr High Luminosity Interaction Region
In November 1995, the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR) began Phase II operations. The CESR/CLEO Phase II upgrade involved the installation of a silicon vertex detector for the CLEO experiment, and an interaction region optimized for a small-radius (2cm) beampipe and bunch-train collisions at total beam currents of 600 mA. The operating experience of the CESR Phase II Interaction Region is r...
